The Lemonaires

The Lemonaires are a 4-part harmony acapella singing group, all members of Treverva Male Voice Choir. They are available to perform at weddings, in pubs, clubs, at special celebrations, in shanty festivals, private residences, in churches, in fact anywhere that brings a smile to the faces of anyone appreciating what can loosely be described as Cornish or Celtic Folk Music. On a more serious note they have several pieces which are suitable for singing at memorial services and funerals. See our 2018 Gig Guide below.

Male voice singing is a great passion for Cornishmen and The Lemonaires, patrons of the Lemon Arms in Mylor Bridge, are no exception.. They would meet there on Monday evenings after choir practice to soothe their vocal chords as you would.

One evening in the spring of 2006 the then landlord, one Alan Rose, remarked casually that Roger Graffy,
the owner of Mylor Yacht Harbour had been in and announced it was the 200th anniversary of Mylor dockyard, which at the time was the smallest dockyard in the Royal Navy. He felt that the village should celebrate the event and hoped Alan could contribute in some way. For his part Roger said he would put on a grand firework display at the end of the day to close the event. 'What on earth can I do?' wailed Alan, 'I'm stuck up here miles away from the dockyard?', however, one of the choir members came to the rescue, 'Send us down there and we'll sing them a few old pub songs or appropriate sea shanties and we'll call ourselves 'The Lemonaders', but after another pint or two, they agreed that 'The Lemonaires' would sound better.

They’ve been sounding better ever since, singing acapella all over Cornwall and sometimes beyond, in four part harmony, They sing of their homeland, fishing and mining with the passion you would expect from proud Celtic men. They can also be found singing informally with friends in the Lemon Arms most Wednesday evenings. Push a pint or two in their direction and they may just be persuaded to perform one or two for you.
